Where it came from
The 2017 Bananas in Pyjamas 5-cent coin was released by the Royal Australian Mint as part of a commemorative series celebrating iconic Australian children's television characters. Issued to mark the program's enduring legacy since its television debut in 1992, the coin highlights the cultural impact of B1 and B2 within Australian media.
The reverse design features the characters B1 and B2, utilizing a frosted finish to create a distinct visual contrast against the standard circulating coin. Designed by the Royal Australian Mint’s team, the piece serves as both a functional coin and a collectible souvenir, reflecting the Mint's strategy of engaging younger generations and families through popular culture themes.
