5 Cents (In the name of George VI; Victory; Silver)

This 2005 five-cent coin was issued by the Royal Canadian Mint as a commemorative piece marking the 60th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. It features a special reverse design by Thomas Shingles, famously known as the 'Victory' nickel, which was originally introduced in 1943 to bolster wartime morale and included a message in Morse code. The coin revives the classic V-shaped torch design, framing it with the dates 1945 and 2005 to denote the six decades of peace.

The 2005 iteration, however, is distinct in its composition. While the original 1943-1945 issues were minted in tombac or chrome-plated steel to conserve nickel for the war effort, this anniversary edition was struck in sterling silver. It was marketed primarily to collectors as a tribute to the generation that served during the conflict, serving as a tangible connection between Canada's contemporary numismatic heritage and its mid-century history.
