Where it came from
The 2014 Andorra 5 Euro cent coin was minted following the formal monetary agreement between the Principality of Andorra and the European Union, which allowed the nation to officially adopt the euro as its currency. Before this transition, Andorra had used the Spanish peseta and French franc, but the new agreement granted the country the right to issue its own euro coins starting in late 2014, marking a significant step in its European integration.
The design of the coin features the chamois and the golden eagle, two iconic symbols of Andorran fauna. These motifs were chosen to reflect the natural heritage and mountainous landscape of the Pyrenean nation. The obverse side also carries the country's name, 'ANDORRA', and the year of issuance, adhering to the standard common design requirements for euro coinage within the Eurozone.
