1 Euro Cent

The 2014 Andorran 1 euro cent coin marks a significant milestone in the country's numismatic history, as it represents the first year Andorra issued its own euro coinage. Following a monetary agreement with the European Union, the principality began circulating currency in late 2014, ending its informal reliance on the French franc and Spanish peseta for legal tender. This transition was a major step in formalizing the state's economic integration with the eurozone.

The design of the coin reflects Andorra's cultural identity, featuring the Pyrenean chamois and a golden eagle. This imagery was selected to highlight the nation's alpine heritage and wildlife, serving as a national emblem for the newly minted currency. The series was designed to adhere to standard European common-side specifications while showcasing unique Andorran motifs on the reverse, a design choice that was well-received by collectors who had long awaited the principality's formal entry into the euro system.
