Where it came from
The Andorran 10 euro cent coin was introduced into general circulation in 2014, marking Andorra's official adoption of the euro as its national currency. While Andorra is not a member of the European Union, it entered into a monetary agreement with the EU to mint its own coinage after years of utilizing the French franc and Spanish peseta. This transition reflected the principality's efforts to modernize its fiscal framework while maintaining its unique sovereign status.
The design of the 10 cent piece features the Church of Santa Coloma, one of the oldest Romanesque religious structures in Andorra, situated in the village of the same name. The imagery honors the nation's pre-Romanesque architectural heritage, which is a focal point of Andorran cultural identity. The reverse side follows the standard European map design common to all euro coins of this denomination, representing the integration of the microstate into the broader Eurozone economic landscape.
