5 Qindarka (Liberation)

The 1969 5 Qindarka coin was issued by the People's Republic of Albania as part of a commemorative series celebrating the 25th anniversary of the country's liberation from Nazi occupation in 1944. These coins were minted during the era of Enver Hoxha, reflecting the state's focus on nationalistic imagery and the reinforcement of socialist identity through currency. The release served both as a functional unit of exchange and a tool for state-sanctioned historical commemoration.

The design features the Albanian state emblem, which prominently displays a five-pointed star above a double-headed eagle, surrounded by wheat stalks. This iconography was central to the aesthetic of the period, emphasizing agrarian productivity and revolutionary strength. While produced in significant quantities to ensure circulation, the series is now appreciated by numismatists for its clear reflection of the specific graphic design standards employed by the Albanian State Bank during the late 1960s.
