Where it came from
The 50 Qindarka coin was issued in 1969 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the liberation of Albania during the Second World War. Struck during the era of the People's Republic of Albania under Enver Hoxha, the coinage of this period served as a significant vehicle for state iconography, emphasizing themes of national sovereignty, socialist struggle, and the triumph of the partisan movement.
The design features the emblem of the People's Republic, characterized by a star and ears of wheat, symbolizing the agricultural foundation and revolutionary spirit of the state. These coins were minted in copper-nickel as part of a broader push to standardize the national currency. While common in circulation at the time, they remain notable to collectors for their stark, utilitarian design that reflects the strict political climate of late 1960s Albania.
