All-New Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spider #8

All-New Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spider #8, published by Marvel Comics in 2019, arrived during a period of significant expansion for the character of Gwen Stacy in the Marvel Multiverse. Following the breakout success of the animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Marvel rebranded the series to solidify the Ghost-Spider moniker. This issue serves as part of a narrative arc helmed by writer Seanan McGuire, who leaned into the character’s complex identity struggles and her efforts to balance life as a college student with her vigilante responsibilities.

The artistic direction for this volume sought to maintain the distinctive, neon-drenched visual identity established by original creators Jason Latour and Robbi Rodriguez, while adapting to the tonal shifts of the post-Spider-Verse landscape. The interior art in this era often emphasized a kinetic, modern aesthetic meant to appeal to a younger, broader readership. By this point in the series, the book was well-regarded for its character-driven approach, focusing less on traditional heroics and more on the personal consequences of Gwen’s multiversal travels.
