Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld #7

Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld #7 was published by DC Comics in 1984 as part of the initial twelve-issue limited series that introduced the character Amy Winston. Created by writers Dan Mishkin and Gary Cohn with art by Ernie Colón, the series emerged during a period of experimentation at DC, blending traditional fantasy tropes with modern superhero sensibilities. The story follows a teenager who discovers she is a princess from a mystical dimension, a premise that allowed the creative team to explore high-fantasy world-building within the established DC universe.

Ernie Colón's illustrative style was integral to the series, characterized by a bright, kinetic energy that distinguished the title from the grittier, more grounded books prevalent at the time. The series was well-received for its unique aesthetic and its ability to bridge the gap between young adult fantasy literature and mainstream comic book narratives. As the seventh issue in the run, it represents a pivotal moment in the character's development as the conflict in Gemworld intensifies, marking it as a significant milestone for fans of 1980s fantasy comics.
