Batman Beyond #5

Batman Beyond #5 was published in 1999 as part of the initial comic book tie-in series for the critically acclaimed Warner Bros. animated television show of the same name. Created by Bob Goodman and illustrated by Rick Burchett and Terry Beatty, the comic was designed to expand upon the futuristic Neo-Gotham setting established by Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, and Alan Burnett. The series aimed to translate the show's distinct cyberpunk-noir aesthetic and its central premise—an aging Bruce Wayne mentoring the young Terry McGinnis—into the medium of print.

The creative team utilized the comic format to explore character dynamics and street-level threats that complemented the animated series' narrative arc. Upon its release, the series was received as a faithful extension of the show's dark, high-tech atmosphere, serving to bridge the gap for fans between broadcast episodes. The design remained grounded in the stark, angular visual language that defined the animated universe, ensuring a seamless aesthetic transition for the audience.
