Where it came from
La collection Roba was launched to celebrate the enduring legacy of Jean Roba, the Belgian cartoonist who created the iconic Boule et Bill series in 1959. This first volume serves as a curated retrospective, revisiting the early adventures of the young boy and his mischievous cocker spaniel. The series was designed to provide fans with a high-quality, hardcover archive that honors the whimsical humor and distinct artistic style that defined the Franco-Belgian comics landscape during the mid-20th century.
Roba’s work is celebrated for its dynamic line art and the endearing domestic chemistry between its human and animal leads. By compiling these stories, the collection highlights Roba's evolution as an illustrator and his ability to capture the warmth of family life. Upon its release, this compilation was well-received by scholars and enthusiasts alike for its faithful reproduction of the original sketches and color palettes, reinforcing the series' status as a cornerstone of the Spirou magazine tradition.
