Where it came from
La collection Roba was launched to consolidate the expansive legacy of Jean Roba, the Belgian cartoonist who created the iconic Boule et Bill series in 1959 for Spirou magazine. This twelfth installment serves as part of a curated effort to present the duo’s whimsical domestic adventures in a cohesive, archival format that honors Roba's signature fluid ink lines and his observational humor regarding the relationship between a young boy and his cocker spaniel.
The design of this collection emphasizes the lighthearted, middle-class Belgian domesticity that defined Roba's aesthetic throughout the mid-to-late 20th century. By compiling these specific strips, the publisher aimed to preserve the evolution of Roba's character design, which shifted from early, simpler iterations toward the expressive, dynamic style that solidified Boule et Bill as staples of Franco-Belgian comics, eventually reaching a wide audience that transcended generations.
