Boule et Bill - La collection Roba #17

Boule et Bill, created by Jean Roba in 1959 for the Franco-Belgian comics magazine Spirou, stands as a hallmark of European humor comics. The series focuses on the domestic adventures of a young boy, his cocker spaniel, and his parents, defined by a gentle, observational wit that captured the rhythms of post-war family life. The collection was designed to anthologize these classic strips, preserving Roba's expressive, fluid brushwork and his keen ability to anthropomorphize the canine lead, Bill, without stripping him of his essential dog-like nature.

This specific volume is part of a curated series intended to celebrate Roba’s complete artistic output. The design emphasizes the nostalgic, warm aesthetic of the original stories, featuring archival panels and editorial commentary that contextualizes the development of the characters over several decades. Upon release, the collection was met with appreciation by long-time enthusiasts and new readers alike, serving as a definitive reference for those looking to explore the evolution of Roba’s distinctive character design and his mastery of the gag-a-day format.
