Where it came from
The Cat's Eye Omnibus series serves as a collected re-release of the classic manga Cat's Eye by Tsukasa Hojo, first serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump starting in 1981. This specific volume, the second in the omnibus format, bundles multiple original chapters to provide a modernized, convenient way for contemporary readers to experience the high-stakes adventures of the Kisugi sisters, who operate as both cafe owners and professional art thieves. Hojo’s work is celebrated for its blend of 1980s aesthetic, intricate heists, and comedic tension between the sisters and the police.
The design of the omnibus collection focuses on preserving Hojo’s distinct clean-line art style while providing a cohesive reading experience. The omnibus format was commissioned to capitalize on the enduring cultural legacy of the original series, which was a landmark title for the action-comedy genre in manga. It has been received as a definitive edition for fans who appreciate the evolution of Hojo’s character design and his foundational role in establishing the 'cat burglar' trope in Japanese pop culture.
