Clever & Smart Sonderband #25

Clever & Smart, originally known in Spain as Mortadelo y Filemón, was created by the cartoonist Francisco Ibáñez in 1958. This specific Sonderband, or special edition volume, represents a portion of the vast comic output that became a cultural staple across Europe, particularly in Germany where these translations gained significant popularity during the 1970s and 1980s. The series follows the bumbling, disguise-prone agents Mortadelo and Filemón as they navigate chaotic, slapstick-filled missions.

The Sonderband series was designed to collect various shorter adventures and themed stories into a accessible, digest-sized format for readers. Francisco Ibáñez's distinct illustration style, characterized by dense, kinetic panels and expressive character humor, defined the visual identity of the franchise for decades. The series was well-received for its consistent wit and ability to blend topical satire with classic gag-based storytelling, securing its place as an enduring example of European comic tradition.
