Where it came from
Close Quadrinhos Eróticos #1 emerged during the late 1980s in Brazil, a period marked by the gradual relaxation of censorship laws following the end of the military dictatorship. This title was part of a burgeoning market for adult-oriented comics that sought to explore themes of sexuality with newfound creative liberty. It functioned as an anthology or showcase for various local illustrators who were eager to push the boundaries of artistic expression within the erotic genre.
The publication was heavily influenced by the visual styles of European adult comics prevalent at the time, prioritizing detailed line work and atmospheric storytelling. It was designed to cater to a demographic interested in sophisticated, illustrated narratives rather than purely explicit imagery. While it captured a specific moment in Brazilian counter-culture history, the series is recognized today as a modest but noteworthy contribution to the broader landscape of independent adult graphic arts during that transitional era.
