Where it came from
The Colección Miguelanxo Prado, published in Spain during the 1990s, was designed to showcase the diverse and visually arresting graphic storytelling of the acclaimed Galician cartoonist Miguelanxo Prado. This series served as a comprehensive retrospective of his short stories and illustrative work, which gained international prestige for their painterly aesthetic, surrealist leanings, and deep psychological undercurrents.
Issue number 2 functions as a thematic entry within this curated series, reflecting Prado's transition from traditional comic strip layouts to more atmospheric, illustrative compositions. Prado, who is celebrated for his sophisticated use of color and shadow, sought in these collections to elevate the medium of the comic book to a fine art form, garnering significant acclaim from European critics who championed his ability to balance dark satire with moments of quiet human vulnerability.
