Where it came from
Cud Comics was a notable contribution to the British underground comix scene of the 1980s, serving as a platform for the vibrant, often surreal work of artists associated with the Leeds-based comic collective. Emerging from a period of DIY artistic expression, the series provided a home for idiosyncratic storytelling and distinct visual styles that diverged sharply from mainstream superhero or adventure titles of the era.
The design and content of Cud Comics were heavily influenced by the zine culture and independent music scene of the time, often featuring contributions from members of the band Cud and their artistic circle. The aesthetic typically favored raw, expressive illustration techniques and a dry, observational humor, which resonated with a niche audience of readers who valued the subculture's authentic and unpolished voice.
