Dark Horse Presents #16

Released in March 1988, Dark Horse Presents #16 served as a pivotal entry in the anthology series that defined Dark Horse Comics' early commitment to creator-owned works. During this era, the publisher sought to provide a professional platform for experimental storytelling and mature themes that were often overlooked by the mainstream industry, cementing the anthology as a cornerstone of the independent comics movement.

This specific issue is notable for continuing the serial installments of key titles and maintaining the series' distinct visual identity, which favored high-contrast, black-and-white illustrative styles. The design philosophy relied on the juxtaposition of gritty, noir-inspired aesthetics and varied narrative voices, a hallmark of the Dark Horse editorial vision under Mike Richardson. It was received as a standard-bearer for the indie scene, appreciated by readers for its consistent quality and its role in fostering talent that would eventually dominate the medium.
