DC Comics Presents #85

DC Comics Presents #85, published in September 1985, serves as a significant intersection of the Superman mythos and the broader DC Universe during the mid-1980s. The issue was crafted during a transitional period for DC, arriving just months before the company-wide reboot initiated by Crisis on Infinite Earths. It was written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Rick Veitch, a creative pairing that brought a nuanced, thematic depth to the encounter between Superman and the Swamp Thing.

The narrative explores the profound existential crisis faced by Superman as he comes to terms with the reality of his own existence and the changing nature of his world. Rick Veitch’s distinct, atmospheric illustration style was utilized to capture the surreal, shifting landscapes that define the story. The issue is widely regarded by critics and readers as one of the most poignant standalone tales in the DC Comics Presents series, specifically for its introspective look at the Man of Steel's psyche during a time of immense narrative uncertainty.
