Where it came from
DC Comics Presents #91, released in March 1986, serves as a significant installment in a series dedicated to showcasing team-ups between Superman and various members of the DC Universe. This specific issue is notable for featuring a crossover between Superman and Captain Marvel, famously known as Shazam, during a period when DC was integrating the Fawcett Comics characters more fully into their continuity.
The issue was written by Joey Cavalieri with art provided by Rick Burchett, whose clean, classic style helped define the aesthetic of DC’s mid-eighties titles. The narrative explores the tension and eventual alliance between the two powerhouses, a classic trope of the Bronze Age of comics that aimed to test how traditional heroic archetypes would interact when faced with shared threats.
