Dragon Ball Chāo: Qīlóngzhū Chāo #22

Dragon Ball Super, known in its Chinese-localized iteration as Dragon Ball Chāo, represents the continuation of Akira Toriyama's seminal manga franchise, picking up after the events of the Majin Buu arc. Issue #22 continues the narrative arc following the Z Fighters as they contend with threats across multiple universes, specifically detailing the tension of the Universe Survival Saga. The series was designed to modernize the franchise's aesthetics while maintaining the high-energy combat and character dynamics that defined the original 1980s and 90s run, with illustration work by Toyotarou under the guidance of Toriyama.

The publication of this issue reflects the broader effort to bring Dragon Ball to a new generation of readers through V-Jump in Japan and subsequent international localized releases. The design choices prioritize dynamic paneling and streamlined action sequences, shifting slightly from Toriyama's earlier, thicker line work to a cleaner, more contemporary manga style. Upon release, the series was received as a nostalgic yet fresh expansion of the mythos, serving as a critical bridge for fans who grew up with the original series and newcomers engaging with the Super anime narrative.
