Where it came from
Released in 2021 by Albatross Funnybooks, the Eric Powell Coloring Book #1 brings the distinct, gritty aesthetic of the creator of The Goon into the medium of illustration for coloring. Eric Powell, known for his unique blend of dark humor, grotesque character designs, and expressive line work, created this collection to offer fans a tactile way to engage with his signature art style outside of his standard comic book narratives.
The book features an array of black-and-white line art illustrations curated from Powell's body of work, specifically formatted to emphasize the bold contours and heavy shading techniques that define his visual language. It was received as a niche but well-regarded addition to the Albatross catalog, serving both as an interactive sketchbook for aspiring artists and a standalone art volume for fans of Powell's particular brand of macabre and stylized illustration.
