Exquisite Corpses #3

Exquisite Corpses #3 is a notable installment in the independent comics series created and edited by David L. Green. Published in the mid-1990s, the series was conceived as a collaborative anthology that drew inspiration from the surrealist 'exquisite corpse' game, where multiple artists contribute to a single piece of work without seeing the full context of what came before. This approach was intended to foster a sense of creative spontaneity and experimental visual storytelling, distancing itself from the traditional superhero narratives dominant in the industry at the time.

The design and curation of the issue reflect the underground aesthetic prevalent in the alternative comics scene of that era. By bringing together a diverse group of contributors, Green sought to showcase varying stylistic approaches under a unified conceptual framework. The resulting work was received by comics enthusiasts as a bold exploration of non-linear narrative structure, valued more for its artistic ingenuity and contribution to the avant-garde comics movement than for mass-market commercial success.
