FemForce #39

FemForce #39, released in the early 1990s, serves as a significant chapter in the long-running superhero series published by AC Comics. Created by Bill Black, the FemForce universe was designed as a nostalgic homage to the Golden Age of comics, focusing on a team of powerful women operating in a world inspired by mid-century aesthetics and classic adventure storytelling. The series gained a dedicated following by bridging the gap between traditional superhero archetypes and the specific sensibilities of independent comic publishing of that era.

The visual identity of this issue, like much of the FemForce line, was driven by Bill Black’s commitment to a distinct, retro-inspired art style that leaned into dynamic action and character-driven narratives. By this stage in the series, the book had firmly established its niche, balancing established continuity with standalone escapades that delighted fans of the pulp-inspired genre. It remains a notable example of independent creators maintaining long-form world-building outside the dominance of the major publishing houses.
