Hanna-Barbera Spotlight #1

Hanna-Barbera Spotlight #1 was published by Archie Comics in 2016 as part of a bold initiative to reimagine classic animated properties for a modern audience. This series served as an anthology platform, designed to introduce contemporary readers to refreshed versions of iconic characters like The Flintstones, Wacky Races, and Scooby-Doo. The release arrived during a period where DC and Archie Comics were actively collaborating to bring darker, more sophisticated narratives to legacy cartoons, moving away from traditional children's episodic formats.

The creative direction for this issue was intended to bridge the gap between nostalgic familiarity and modern graphic storytelling. The interior art and writing sought to inject mature themes and updated aesthetics into characters that had remained largely static for decades. Reception was generally positive, with critics highlighting the ambitious tone shift and the high quality of the varied artistic styles, marking it as a significant departure from the standard tie-in comics of the 1990s and early 2000s.
