Where it came from
Hourman #3 was published by DC Comics in 1999 as part of the series written by Tom Peyer with art by Rags Morales. This run explored the adventures of an android from the 853rd century who discovers he is the successor to the legacy of Rex Tyler, the original Golden Age hero. The series was a creative outgrowth of the DC One Million crossover event, focusing on themes of artificial life and the pursuit of human morality.
The character design and visual direction were heavily influenced by the transition from the traditional costumed crusader trope to a more introspective, sci-fi-infused narrative. Rags Morales provided a clean, expressive style that grounded the android's mechanical nature in a surprisingly human emotional landscape. While the series was noted by critics for its innovative storytelling and unique tone, it remains a cult classic rather than a mainstream phenomenon.
