Where it came from
Hourman number 8 was published in 1999 as part of the DC Comics series focusing on the android successor to the original Golden Age hero. Written by Tom Peyer with art by Rags Morales, the series explored the complex existence of the android Hourman as he navigated humanity, time manipulation, and his predecessor's legacy. This specific issue is noted for its character-driven narrative, which was emblematic of the thoughtful, character-focused superhero stories produced by DC during the late nineties.
The visual identity of this series was shaped by Rags Morales, whose clean lines and expressive storytelling helped distinguish this iteration of Hourman from more traditional caped crusaders. The series was well-regarded by critics and fans of niche DC titles for its philosophical undertones and unique perspective on heroism. While the series eventually concluded after twenty-five issues, it remains a cult favorite for its attempt to reconcile the heavy baggage of legacy characters with a fresh, science-fiction premise.
