Illustrerte Klassikere #98

Illustrerte Klassikere, the Norwegian counterpart to the American Classics Illustrated series, began publication in the early 1950s with the intent to bring world literature to a younger audience through the medium of comics. Issue number 98, which featured a Norwegian adaptation of The Last of the Mohicans by James Fenimore Cooper, arrived during the height of the series' popularity in Scandinavia. These booklets were meticulously produced to serve as accessible entry points into classic novels, utilizing a blend of dramatic illustration and condensed narrative prose that mirrored the aesthetic of their American counterparts.

The series relied on a rotating cast of established illustrators, many of whom were recruited from the pool of artists working for Gilberton in the United States, to maintain a consistent house style characterized by dynamic panel layouts and realistic portraiture. While the intent was educational, the publication found immense commercial success among Norwegian youth who appreciated the vibrant, accessible visual format. The series remains highly regarded today as a significant touchstone of 20th-century European educational comics, noted for its role in bridging the gap between serialized pulp storytelling and traditional literary canon.
