Kaya-chan wa Kowakunai #3

Kaya-chan wa Kowakunai, authored by Minoru Takeyoshi, originated as a serial in Kodansha's Morning magazine. The series centers on a kindergarten teacher who encounters a supernatural child named Kaya-chan, blending dark comedy with horror elements. The third volume continues this narrative, following the protagonist's attempts to maintain a semblance of order within a classroom populated by anomalous entities.

The character design reflects Takeyoshi’s stylistic contrast between the mundane professional setting of a school and the jarring, grotesque visual language used to depict Kaya-chan's manifestations. Upon its release, the series garnered attention for its unique tonal shifts and its exploration of the uncanny through the lens of early childhood education. It is regarded as a notable entry in contemporary manga that subverts the trope of the 'creepy child' by grounding the horror in the repetitive, often stressful environment of a daycare.
