Ketteiban, Kamui-Den Zenshū: Daiichibu #2

Ketteiban, Kamui-Den Zenshū is a definitive collection of Sanpei Shirato's seminal gekiga work, Kamui-Den. Originally serialized in the groundbreaking manga magazine Garo starting in 1964, the series gained immense cultural significance for its intricate critique of feudal Japanese society, class struggle, and Buddhist philosophy. This definitive edition was released to preserve the sprawling, dense narrative of the original run for new generations of readers.

The design of these volumes emphasizes the raw, gritty aesthetic of Shirato's brushwork. By collecting the narrative into these distinct segments, the publishers intended to honor the heavy historical research and complex socio-political themes that define the series. Upon its initial serialization, the work was received as a landmark of adult-oriented manga, influencing countless artists and cementing Shirato’s legacy as a central figure in the history of Japanese visual storytelling.
