Ketteiban, Kamui-Den Zenshū: Daiichibu #4

Ketteiban, Kamui-Den Zenshū: Daiichibu #4 is part of a definitive, large-format reissue of Sanpei Shirato’s seminal gekiga work, Kamui-den. Originally serialized in the groundbreaking manga magazine Garo starting in 1964, the series redefined the medium by offering a stark, socio-political look at the lives of outcasts in Edo-period Japan. This specific collection series was produced to compile the sprawling epic into a high-quality, archival format suitable for long-term preservation of the intricate artwork.

The design of these volumes prioritizes readability and reverence for Shirato's bold, cinematic paneling and dense, calligraphic line work. As a central pillar of the gekiga movement, the series was received with immense critical acclaim for its unflinching exploration of class struggle and historical materialism. This reissue serves as the standard reference for scholars and enthusiasts alike, ensuring that the visual impact of Shirato’s detailed landscapes and character-driven drama remains intact for contemporary readers.
