Ketteiban, Kamui-Den Zenshū: Dainibu #2

Ketteiban, Kamui-Den Zenshū is the definitive complete collection of Sanpei Shirato's seminal gekiga work, Kamui-Den. This epic series, which first appeared in the radical manga magazine Garo in 1964, was a landmark in Japanese literature, offering a gritty, dialectical exploration of feudal class struggle and oppression. The Zenshū editions were curated to preserve Shirato's intricate, high-contrast black-and-white aesthetic, which deeply influenced the development of socially conscious manga.

The second volume of the second part (Dainibu) continues the narrative arc following the protagonist Kamui, a runaway ninja navigating a hierarchical Edo-period society. Shirato, alongside his artistic collaborators at Akame Production, designed the series to challenge traditional historical romanticism. These collected volumes are widely recognized by scholars and enthusiasts as a masterclass in visual storytelling, reflecting the political ferment and intellectual depth of the late 20th-century Japanese avant-garde movement.
