Ketteiban, Kamui-Den Zenshū: Dainibu #11

Ketteiban, Kamui-Den Zenshū: Dainibu represents the definitive collected edition of Sanpei Shirato’s monumental gekiga series, Kamui-Den. The original narrative, which began serialization in 1964, is a foundational work in the history of Japanese comics, renowned for its unflinching portrayal of Edo-period class struggle, philosophical inquiry, and visceral action. This specific Zenshū collection was curated to preserve the integrity of Shirato’s complex storytelling and dense, illustrative style for subsequent generations.

The design of this edition emphasizes readability and archival quality, honoring Shirato’s meticulous research into historical realism and his signature sharp, kinetic linework. As a pillar of the gekiga movement, the series was received as a revolutionary departure from the lighter manga of its era, challenging readers with its socio-political themes. This eleventh volume of the second part serves as a vital segment of a series that is widely studied both as a masterpiece of graphic literature and as an essential primary text for understanding mid-twentieth-century Japanese cultural critique.
