Ketteiban, Kamui-Den Zenshū: Dainibu #1

Ketteiban, Kamui-Den Zenshū: Dainibu #1 is part of a definitive collected edition of Sanpei Shirato's seminal gekiga epic, Kamui-Den. Originally serialized in the groundbreaking manga magazine Garo beginning in 1964, the series profoundly influenced the medium by blending rigorous historical research, class struggle, and existential themes within the context of Edo-period Japan. This specific collection represents the second major arc of the narrative, meticulously repackaged for readers to experience the complex, sprawling struggle of the protagonist, Kamui.

The design of this edition emphasizes the gravity and technical mastery of Shirato’s illustrative style, which relies on stark contrasts and dynamic compositions to depict the harsh realities of feudal life. As a pillar of the alternative manga movement, Kamui-Den is recognized for its intellectual depth and its role in maturing the medium for an adult audience. This definitive Zenshū format remains a standard for preservation, ensuring that the legacy of Shirato's intricate political and social commentary remains accessible to contemporary collectors and historians.
