Ketteiban, Kamui-Den Zenshū: Dainibu #4

Ketteiban, Kamui-Den Zenshū: Dainibu represents a definitive collected edition of Sanpei Shirato’s monumental gekiga series, Kamui-Den. The original saga, which began serialization in the monthly magazine Garo in 1964, was a groundbreaking work that utilized the backdrop of the Edo period to explore complex themes of class struggle, social hierarchy, and the lives of the oppressed. The second part, or Dainibu, continues the intricate narrative following the protagonist Kamui as he navigates a landscape defined by feudal brutality and relentless survival.

This specific edition serves as a high-quality archival release designed to preserve Shirato's intense, ink-heavy artistic style for modern readers. The design follows a standard format for comprehensive manga collections, prioritizing readability and historical fidelity to the original serialized layouts. Upon its release, the Kamui-Den series was widely lauded for its intellectual depth and its influence on the evolution of manga as a medium for serious social critique, cementing Shirato’s reputation as a foundational figure in the gekiga movement.
