Where it came from
La Zorra y el Cuervo was a prominent Cuban comic magazine that launched in 1964 as a creative offshoot of the satirical publication Dedeté. It was designed to provide accessible, humor-based educational and entertainment content for children, often utilizing anthropomorphic characters to convey moral lessons or social observations. The title, which translates to The Fox and the Crow, drew inspiration from classic Aesop fables but adapted them into a distinctly Cuban mid-century aesthetic.
The publication was part of a larger state-supported effort to cultivate domestic comic art and illustration during a period when international imports were limited. Issue 121 belongs to the series' long-running tenure, characterized by its characteristic bold line work and limited color palette, which were hallmarks of the era's printing constraints. The series is remembered today as a cornerstone of Cuban popular culture for its role in shaping the childhood experiences of several generations of readers.
