Where it came from
La Zorra y el Cuervo was a prominent Cuban comic book series launched in the 1960s, heavily inspired by the classic Aesop fable. The series was produced by the Editorial Juvenil in Havana, serving as a staple of childhood reading in Cuba for several decades. It was designed to provide accessible, humorous narratives for young audiences, often featuring the sly fox and the gullible crow in various slapstick scenarios that mirrored the archetypal trickster tropes found in global folklore.
The visual identity of the series was defined by a clean, graphic style typical of mid-century socialist illustration, characterized by bold lines and limited color palettes necessitated by the printing resources of the time. While the artists often remained uncredited in the earlier issues, the publication became a cultural touchstone in Cuba, receiving widespread recognition for its longevity and its role in fostering literacy and entertainment for generations of Cuban youth.
