Legends of the DC Universe #24

Legends of the DC Universe was launched in 1998 as an anthology series intended to provide a flexible home for stories that existed outside of current continuity, often filling in gaps in character histories or exploring different eras of the DC mythos. Issue number 24, published in 1999, is part of a two-part story arc featuring the Flash, scripted by Brian Augustyn and illustrated by artist Anthony Williams. The series was designed to appeal to long-time readers by utilizing established creative teams to tell self-contained tales that did not require knowledge of ongoing complex crossovers.

The visual approach for this issue reflects the late nineties house style of DC Comics, balancing clear narrative layouts with the slightly exaggerated character proportions common to the era. The story itself focuses on Barry Allen, aiming to evoke a sense of classic superhero adventure. Reception of the series remained consistent among established comic book readers who appreciated the opportunity to revisit versions of characters that had been updated or sidelined by the shifting landscape of the major event-driven narratives of the time.
