Legends of the DC Universe #17

Legends of the DC Universe #17 was published in June 1999 as part of an anthology series designed to spotlight various creative teams telling self-contained stories from across DC Comics history. This particular issue features a story written by Steve Vance with art by John Delaney, focusing on the Superman mythos and set within the continuity of the popular Superman: The Animated Series style. The series functioned as a bridge between the core monthly titles and the broader animated aesthetic that dominated DC's media presence at the time.

The aesthetic of this issue reflects the clean, bold lines and stylized character designs synonymous with Bruce Timm and the animation department at Warner Bros. Animation. By blending the comic book medium with the established visual language of the DC Animated Universe, the publication aimed to capture both long-time comic readers and the younger audience attracted to the television programs. It remains a representative artifact of the late 1990s era, where cross-media synergy between television animation and printed comics was at its peak.
