Legion of Super-Heroes #43

Legion of Super-Heroes #43, published by DC Comics in 1988, serves as a pivotal installment during the 'Baxter Paper' era of the series. Written by Paul Levitz with art by Greg LaRocque, this period of the title was defined by a shift toward more mature, intricate storytelling that expanded the lore of the 30th-century team. This specific issue captures the ongoing narrative complexities of the post-Crisis on Infinite Earths DC Universe, where the creative team sought to balance sprawling character ensembles with high-stakes cosmic drama.

The visual identity of this era relied heavily on LaRocque’s clean, dynamic linework, which helped anchor the team’s large roster amidst the increasingly dense plotting of the mid-eighties. The series was designed to appeal to long-time readers who appreciated continuity and character-driven subplots, distinguishing the Legion from more traditional superhero fare. By the time of this issue’s release, the title had solidified its reputation as a flagship for DC's world-building, widely regarded for its commitment to a cohesive, if occasionally labyrinthine, futuristic timeline.
