Linda og Valentin: Ad Rummets Veje #1

Linda og Valentin: Ad Rummets Veje, known internationally as Valérian and Laureline, began its serialization in the French magazine Pilote in 1967. This specific cycle was conceived by writer Pierre Christin and artist Jean-Claude Mézières, who sought to blend classic space opera with sophisticated, character-driven science fiction. The series is widely regarded as a foundational work of the bande dessinée medium, praised for its complex world-building and the dynamic, egalitarian partnership between the two protagonists.

The visual language of the series was heavily influenced by Mézières' interest in architectural design and industrial aesthetics, moving away from the rigid tropes of mid-century science fiction. The duo's approach was to create a lived-in, cosmopolitan universe that prioritized atmospheric depth and ecological themes. Upon its release, the series received significant critical acclaim for its innovation and would go on to exert a profound influence on modern cinema and visual arts, most notably inspiring the aesthetic direction of films like The Fifth Element.
