Magia Record: Mahō Shōjo Madoka☆Magica Gaiden #1

Magia Record: Mahō Shōjo Madoka☆Magica Gaiden #1 is the inaugural volume of the manga adaptation based on the 2017 mobile role-playing game of the same name, which serves as a spin-off to the seminal anime series Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Published in Japan starting in 2018, this adaptation was serialized in Manga Time Kirara Forward and written by Fuji Fujino. It aims to translate the expanded narrative of the game, centering on a new protagonist, Iroha Tamaki, as she navigates the mysterious city of Kamihama in search of her lost sister.

The character designs for the manga reflect the aesthetic established by the game’s original illustrator, Ume Aoki, known for her soft, distinctive style that contrasts with the darker, psychological themes central to the Madoka Magica universe. The manga was received as a faithful expansion of the game’s lore, allowing fans to follow the intricate plot through a more traditional narrative format. Its release solidified Magia Record as a significant chapter within the broader franchise, further cementing the visual language that fans had come to associate with the series since its original anime debut.
