Magic: The Gathering: Untold Stories―Liliana #1

Released by Dark Horse Comics in 2022, this issue serves as a focused narrative expansion within the expansive Magic: The Gathering multiverse. It was conceived as part of a series intended to explore the deep backstory of Liliana Vess, one of the game's most iconic and morally complex planeswalkers. The project was designed to bridge the gap between her established lore and her personal evolution, offering readers a more intimate look at the experiences that shaped her path.

The creative direction for this series emphasized a cinematic visual language that echoes the aesthetic of the trading card game while establishing a distinct graphic novel identity. It was produced through a collaboration between Wizards of the Coast and Dark Horse, aiming to appeal to both long-time players of the card game and newcomers interested in fantasy storytelling. Upon release, it was well-received by fans of the franchise for its commitment to character-driven storytelling and its fidelity to Liliana's established personality.
