Mandrake: Merlín el Mago #13

Mandrake: Merlín el Mago #13 is a specific installment in a long-running series of Spanish-language comic books dedicated to the classic pulp hero Mandrake the Magician. The character, created by Lee Falk in 1934, was a landmark in the comic strip medium, blending traditional stage magic with detective work and science fiction. This particular series was published in Spain to bring Falk’s iconic creation to international audiences, repackaging the adventures of the tuxedo-clad illusionist for a new demographic of readers.

The aesthetic of this series relies on the foundation established by Phil Davis, the original artist who gave Mandrake his definitive look and refined the visual language of the strip. The Spanish editions typically adapted the classic black-and-white newspaper strips into a format that emphasized the noir-inflected mystery and high-contrast imagery that defined Mandrake's world. As with many vintage foreign editions, this issue is a testament to the enduring global reach of Mandrake, serving as a functional piece of mid-century popular culture that introduced European readers to one of the earliest costumed heroes.
