Where it came from
The Many Ghosts of Dr. Graves was a long-running horror anthology series published by Charlton Comics, beginning in 1967 during a period when the company was known for its low-budget but highly creative approach to genre storytelling. Issue #24, released in the early 1970s, fits into the series' signature format of featuring a supernatural host, Dr. Marcus Graves, who serves as a bridge between the reader and various tales of the macabre, mystery, and the paranormal.
The design and artistic direction of the series were heavily influenced by the editorial work of Dick Giordano and the contributions of various illustrators working under the Charlton house style. These comics were intended to compete with the broader horror comics market by focusing on atmospheric suspense and ironic twists rather than the graphic gore that defined other publications of the era. The series remains a notable example of Bronze Age independent horror comics, favored by collectors for its distinctive, moody cover art and mid-century aesthetic.
