Mórén Zhēntàn Nǎoniè Nièluó #15

Mórén Zhēntàn Nǎoniè Nièluó, often referred to in English as Neuro: Supernatural Detective, is a supernatural mystery manga series created by Yusei Matsui. First serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump in 2005, the series follows a demon named Neuro Nogami who arrives in the human world to solve mysteries in order to consume the energy generated by the culprits' complex puzzles. Issue #15 reflects the height of the series' transition from purely episodic detective procedural to the more intense, arc-based psychological battles that Matsui became known for in his later works.

The character design of Neuro, characterized by his sharp features and supernatural transformations, was heavily influenced by the gothic and surrealist aesthetics popular in early 2000s manga. Matsui sought to blend traditional Sherlock Holmes-style deduction with grotesque, otherworldly horror elements. While it was initially a niche title, the series received critical praise for its inventive paneling and dark humor, eventually finding a dedicated cult following that paved the way for Matsui's subsequent success with Assassination Classroom.
