My Home Hero #23

My Home Hero, written by Naoki Yamakawa and illustrated by Masashi Asaki, began serialization in Weekly Young Magazine in 2017. The series follows Tetsuo Tosu, an ordinary salaryman who becomes embroiled in the criminal underworld after killing his daughter's abusive boyfriend to protect her. Volume 23 serves as a late-stage installment in this suspense-thriller narrative, which is renowned for its intense cat-and-mouse dynamic and exploration of how far a parent will go to preserve their family unit.

Masashi Asaki's illustrative style is characterized by sharp, high-contrast character designs that effectively convey the escalating paranoia and psychological strain inherent in the story. As the series progressed into its later volumes, including number 23, critical reception consistently highlighted the manga's ability to maintain a grueling pace and moral ambiguity. The work is widely regarded as a significant contribution to the modern seinen genre, praised for its tight plotting and the stark evolution of its central protagonist.
