Where it came from
Oltretomba Speciaal was a long-running Italian horror comic series published by Edizioni ErreGì during the 1970s, a period when the 'fumetti neri' genre flourished. This specific issue, number 21, arrived as part of a prolific output designed to satisfy a hungry market for suspense, macabre tales, and eroticized gothic imagery, which were staples of the Italian newsstand culture at the time.
The series relied on a rotating team of illustrators and writers who favored expressionistic, gritty art styles to heighten the shock value of their narratives. Issue 21 reflects the typical editorial approach of the era, focusing on lurid cover art and self-contained stories intended to provoke and entertain casual readers, solidifying the series' status as a characteristic example of mid-70s exploitation-style comics.
