Oltretomba Speciaal #32

Oltretomba Speciaal was a long-running Italian horror comic series published by Edifumetto during the 1970s and 1980s. Emerging during a peak era for 'fumetti neri' or black comics, the series tapped into the popular appetite for provocative, supernatural, and often transgressive storytelling that defined the publisher's output under Renzo Barbieri. Like its sister publications, the series relied on a rotating cast of artists and writers to produce rapid-fire monthly issues.

The aesthetic of Oltretomba Speciaal focused on high-contrast black-and-white illustrations, characterized by visceral horror themes and a signature pulp sensibility. Designers and illustrators for Edifumetto often worked under strict deadlines to maintain the series' prolific output, prioritizing atmospheric tension and shock value to cater to a devoted readership of adult comic enthusiasts. While the series was frequently scrutinized by authorities for its explicit content, it remains a significant touchstone of Italian counter-culture publishing from the period.
